Project: Consumer Bahavior
Inspiration: “Obsessive Consumption” by Kate Bingaman-Burt and “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg

This project started as a exercise for documenting my own purchases everyday. The constrains or rules of the project were, 1. Act as a reporter, 2. Observe the consumer and ask/photograph what they were buying, 3. Draw one item I would buy everyday. After three months of documenting and drawing many items I purchased, here is what I found.

“Our longings and our worries are both to some degree overblown because we have within us the capacity to manufac- ture the very “COMMODITY” we are constantly chasing after when we choose experience. This cycle repeats itself again and again. When we buy a product/food of our choice what we are really buying in that bottle or cupcake is the experience,a feeling of happiness. We have just manufacture “COMMODTY” something that brings satisfaction to us and others.”

Going thought he journey of observing, asking and interacting with people during this project proved to me, that many times we may buy products just for the sake of buying. Within us we know, that the only thing that can comfort us at times, or ease our anxiety, or stop our boredom and fill that gap inside us; may be by buying just one more thing.
